Posts from the Percys

We took a trip to Florida recently and Benjamin had so much fun! It was nice to leave the cold weather behind and spend a few days in the warm sunshine. We can’t wait for Spring to arrive so we can spend more time outside doing one of Benjamin’s favorite things-swinging!! It is such a joy for us to watch him having so much fun. Everytime Benjamin is on the swing, it reminds me of this poem that I recited in my Kindergarten recitation contest. Enjoy!

The Swing
How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside–

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown–
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

Robert Louis Stevenson

My Funny Valentine

Happy Valentine’s Day! I must say that I am one lucky lady to have two sweet fellas on Valentine’s day this year. I think this will make twelve Valentine’s that I have celebrated with my sweet husband. Each year is just better and better! As I reflect on true love today, I am reminded of one of my favorite passages from the Bible, which is my guidebook on how to love.
If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all His mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain’ “Jump”, and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing. If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head, doesn’t force itself on others, isn’t always “me first”, doesn’t fly off the handle, doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, doesn’t revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps on going to the end. Love never dies.”– 1 Corinthians 13:1-8 from The Message
I am certainly not perfect at loving others, but luckily God gives me grace that is new everyday.
I’ll leave you with a snapshot of my funny little valentine whom I love so, so much!!

One of my goals for 2013 was to blog more often. I’m not doing too good so far but I guess it’s because Benjamin keeps me so busy!
In January we got to celebrate Scott’s birthday by going on a date night to The Capital Grille while Benjamin stayed with his Grammy and Papa. It was so nice to go out!! We also had a little pizza party at my parents place and Spencer and Meg were there too. We are so excited that Meg and Spencer are having a baby and thrilled that it’s a girl!! It will be so much fun to spoil her and watch Benjamin grow up with his little cousin. We can’t wait for July to be here so we can meet her!
Benjamin is now 11 months old and his first birthday will be here before we know it! It is hard to believe how fast he is growing. Lately, he is crawling super fast and pulling up on absolutely everything! He is starting to let go and will take one step before he falls down. We are expecting him to take off walking anytime now! He loves to say “uh oh”, “dada”, “mama” (only when tired or upset). He waves hello and goodbye and loves to clap for himself when we say “yay” or “good job”. He puts his arms up in the air when we say “touchdown” so that is really cute and makes his football-loving Daddy very happy! He continues to enjoy going to Kindermusik, although now that he’s so mobile it’s a challenge for me because I have to chase him all over the room! Other interests include: banging things together, turning things over and looking under them, playing peekaboo, finding electrical outlets and pulling on cords, and throwing things out of his pack n play. As you can see he is all boy! He does not like: getting his diaper changed, getting dressed, getting his face wiped. He eats a lot of different foods but I tried giving him some steamed peas and carrots and he was not a big fan! I think he gagged just looking at them. Oh well, we will keep trying!

Everyday with him is such a joy and we are so blessed to have him!
